O
n his first visit to
Cody, board-certi-
fied otolaryngologist
Dr. Randy J. Folker, M.D.,
FAAOA, FACS, felt right at
home.
He’s excited to begin
working at West Park Hos-
pital on April 1.
“Wh e n w e v i s i t e d ,
everyone was so welcom-
ing,” he says. “People at
the hospital couldn’t have
worked harder to make
us feel this was the right
move for us.”
Otolaryngologists are
physicians trained in the
medical and surgical man-
agement and treatment of
patients with diseases and
disorders of the ear, nose,
throat (ENT), and related
structures of the head and
neck. They diagnose and
manage diseases of the
ears, nose, sinuses, larynx
(voice box), mouth and
throat, as well as struc-
tures of the neck and face.
“About 60 percent of the
problems I treat are caused
by c omp l i c a t i ons f r om
allergies,” he says.
He also deals with cos-
me t i c , f unc t i ona l and
recons t ruc t i ve surg i ca l
treatment of abnormali-
ties of the face, neck and
ear; cancerous and non-
cancerous tumors in the
head and neck; disorders of
the throat, including voice
and swallowing problems;
and trauma injuries to the
head, neck or ear.
“When I see a patient
that has a problem that’s
bothersome, I get to help
them feel better and that’s
rewarding,” he says.
Dr. Folker grew up in
Creswell, Ore. He gradu-
ated from Willamette Uni-
versity in Salem, Ore., in
1988 with dual majors – a
B.S. in chemistry and biol-
ogy. He earned his medi-
cal degree in 1993 from
Oregon Health Sciences
University and decided to
specialize in otolaryngol-
ogy.
“There are some things
about otolaryngology that
are unusua l , ” he says .
“One, I have the opportu-
nity to care for people of
all ages. Two, it’s a job that
combines the ability to pro-
vide surgical and medical
care, and both are interest-
ing and enjoyable.”
Dr. Folker has been in
private practice in Mar-
quette and Hancock, Mich.,
since 1999. He’s looking
forward to being closer to
his family in Oregon and
to Cody’s nice weather
after living so long near the
Great Lakes.
“I’m a small town per-
son and Cody is a size that
appeals to me,” he says. “It
allows me the opportunity
to get to know people well,
which is exciting for me.
“And Wyoming is a great
state with deep history and
tradition and a proud spir-
it.”
Dr. Folker and his wife
Glenda have three chil-
dren. Son Forest, 19, is
attending Hope College in
Holland, Mich. Daughter
Lauryn, 15, and son Eian,
12, will be moving to Cody
after this school year.
Dr. Folker is looking
forward to Cody’s outdoor
opportunities, and enjoys
hiking, fly fishing, biking
and skiing.
Otolaryngologist Dr. Folker joins WPH in April
DR. RANDY FOLKER, M.D.
Otolaryngologist
FAAOA, FACS
began in 2006. The purpose
of the FMP is to build on
the WPH Strategic Plan and
provide a sound framework
which guides and supports
facility improvement deci-
sions.
Construction of the Cath-
cart Health Center was com-
pleted in 2009 and the Mod-
ernization Project addition
was finished in June 2012.
Also in 2012, WPH began
the process to backfill spaces
vacated by departments and
services that were relocated
to the new addition. This
led to the Patient Experi-
ence Project (Bridge to the
Future).
PLAN
(from page F-1)
McMILLAN
(from page F-1)
to be our outstanding staff.
WPH was fortunate to be
recognized in “Becker’s Top
100 Best Places to Work in
Healthcare.” This achieve-
ment is attributed to the
excellent staff that works
at WPH on our patient-cen-
tered care philosophy.
Our mission is, “West
Park Hospital will be an
excellent regional health-
care provider by ‘putting
the patient first.’”
It’s important for all of
us at WPH that our patients
receive excellent services
and have a good experience
while being treated and
cared for by our staff. Our
top three goals continue to
be: 1.) Provide quality care
to our patients 2.) Provide
an excellent environment
for our employees to work
3.) Provide an excellent
environment for our physi-
cians to practice.
Thanks to the residents
of Cody and the Big Horn
Basin for supporting the
West Park Hospital District.
We appreciate your sup-
port and thank you for the
trust you have placed in our
staff while caring for you
and your loved ones.
We are a good organiza-
tion always striving to be a
“great organization” that
you and your family have
confidence in caring for
your medical needs.
